Welcome to my passion project – Animated Movie Posters!
Below, you’ll find a teaser of what’s cooking, along with upcoming tutorials that’ll show you how the magic happens.
The Saga Unfolds:
For those who’ve been living under a rock (or, you know, have lives outside YouTube), I’ve been pouring my heart, soul, and an unhealthy amount of coffee into creating After Effects tutorials for my channel. Because I’m as obsessive as a cat with a laser pointer, I embarked on a mission to create over a hundred tutorials on topics I thought were as overlooked as the terms and conditions page. But, plot twist! The internet is a vast sea of tutorials that also tell you which buttons to press, and apparently, some of them do it better than I could ever dream of.
I didn’t expect to become an overnight sensation (because let’s face it, my bedtime is way too early for that), but joining the YouTube game late meant my channel was more lost in the shuffle than a sock in a laundry room. It was time for a rethink. I pondered how I could sprinkle my years of motion graphics wisdom and teaching experience into something that doesn’t just scream, “Look at me, I can push buttons!”
So, I did what any self-respecting creative does: I took a deep dive into my passions, hobbies, and the existential dread of my daily routine. As someone who meticulously divides their day into three equal parts – work, play, and pretending to be asleep – I’m about as exciting as a bowl of plain oatmeal. My ultimate goal? To race through work so I can worship at the altar of my vinyl collection and bathe in the glow of my TV screen.
I flirted with the idea of animating album covers, only to have a reality check: I was basically putting lipstick on someone else’s pig, and AI could do it while blindfolded. So, before that ship sailed and sank, I pivoted to something slightly less likely to make my soul weep: creating animated versions of movie posters. Nothing too wild, just rewatch the movie (because, homework), find a scene that screams “This is it!”, and animate a moment that leads to the film’s title.
Embracing the motto “creativity loves a good straitjacket” I limited myself to 2-3 hours per masterpiece, using only After Effects (and its entourage of plugins and apps) to bring my visions to life. These aren’t your grandma’s movie posters; think of them as bite-sized homages to cinematic moments, ready to dazzle at an imaginary movie buff soirée.
This project is still a baby bird learning to fly, but I’m finally ready to fling it out of the nest and into your arms. I’m stoked to share these animated wonders, dish out the behind-the-scenes gossip, and maybe, just maybe, teach you a thing or two. Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to throw your ideas and critiques my way as I unleash these creations into the wild.
So, stay tuned, suggest away, and let’s embark on this rollercoaster of animated movie poster madness together. It’s going to be a hoot!
